The California GROWs (CalGrows) initiative is a Direct Care Workforce Training and Stipend Program that will incentivize, support, and fund career pathways for the Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS). CalGrows seeks to provide the foundation for many positive outcomes in HCBS, including
increased skills, satisfaction, retention, and career development opportunities
for direct care workers.
The program will provide a Certificate of Completion to those eligible to complete 50 hours of courses to help upskill in their current
role.
For paid Direct Care Workers: After completing the 50 hours of training, eligible and currently employed will be eligible receive a stipend of $1,500 (equivalent to $30/hour) from CalGrows after submitting a claim at https://www.calgrows.org/get-paid.
Target Population
Non-in-home supportive services (IHSS)
Home care aide
Community Health Workers
Private pay seniors in the home and community
Unlicensed social workers
Personal care assistants
Care coordinators
Community health workers
Transportation providers
The following population must be from one of the following program settings in Merced County: Home Care Organizations, Community-Based Adult Services, Multipurpose Senior Services Program, Adult Day Care, CA Community Transitions, PACE, Assisted Living Waiver Providers, RCFEs w/ Medical Residents (Medi-Cal) HCBA Waiver Providers, or an AIDS Waiver Provider.
Individuals selected to move forward with the training program will receive an email confirmation with additional instructions from the Merced County Department of Workforce Investment.
Please Note: Unpaid family and friend caregivers
still qualify for the training; however, will not qualify for the stipend. Only
paid in-home and community-based caregivers qualify for the incentive.
