The Writers Association of Northern Appalachia (WANA) will host its fall conference September 19-20 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Wheeling, West Virginia, featuring Pittsburgh's punk rock poet, Jan Beatty, live music with Sue Powers and Jeff Berman (from Devilish Merry), and a performance by the Women of Appalachia.
We are looking for proposals for craft talks, academic research essays, creative work, and the business of writing presentations connected to Northern Appalachia, which spans parts of five states: northern West Virginia, eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania, western Maryland, and the southern tier of New York.
We welcome proposals on a variety of topics and are specifically interested in writing and discussion about Northern Appalachian experiences and identities.
The deadline to submit proposals is March 31. We will send notifications in April. Each presenter is limited to two proposals. Accepted presenters will be required to register for the conference.
