The second meeting of the Racial Justice Study Group will take place on Tuesday, May 22 at SPSA at 7 pm. The topic for this meeting will be Closing Rikers: A Brief History and Next Steps. At the meeting, we will screen a video recording of a recent discussion on The State of Justice in New York City, at which a panel—including Judge Jonathan Lippman, Chair of the Independent Commission on New York City Criminal Justice and Incarceration Reform—addressed gathered faith groups on the status of the planned closing of Rikers Island.
We will send out a short list of suggested readings in the next week to prepare for the video and discussion.
Please note that the study group is open to all, including those who were not able to attend our first meeting.
