STEM and Community Engagement in Afterschool and Out-of-School-Time Programs

The Afterschool Alliance has launched an initiative to explore how science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs in afterschool, summer and other out-of-school-time (OST) settings such as science centers, museums, zoos, aquaria, universities etc. can nurture young people’s interest, skills, and knowledge to solve community and societal challenges. If you would like more information about this initiative, called “Collective for Youth Empowerment in STEM & Society” (CYESS), please visit our website.

As part of this work, we want to understand how programs that work with youth aged 13-18 incorporate community engagement into their STEM programming.  Your answers to this survey will help us map and document the  landscape of program strategies and models at the intersection of STEM and community engagement. This will allow us to elevate promising practices, broker partnerships for peer mentoring of programs, determine the supports and resources that program providers need, and advocate for funding for increasing these practices.

There are three sections to this survey - the first asks for basic details about your program. The second set of questions asks about the content and goals of the program. And the final section asks about the intersection with community engagement. The full survey should take approximately 15 minutes of your time.

Thank you for sharing information about your program and helping us strengthen this initiative to support practitioners and young people in afterschool and OST STEM programs.
