Light a Candle for Literacy Parade & Children's Book Festival - Parade Registration
Date: Saturday, September 9, 2023
Time: Parade starts at 12 noon; Book Festival takes place from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Location: Parade begins at Beauchamp Library and ends at Brighton Academy Middle School (formerly Danforth) for the book festival.

Thank you for your interest in marching for literacy. Our goal is to get city residents excited about reading and to provide information about many different opportunities to learn. By marching you will encourage others to think about how important literacy is for everyone at every stage of life. This is also a chance for you to promote your work. Please carry a sign with the name of your group so you can be identified.  Everyone is also encouraged to join in the fun and dress up as their favorite book character.

Here's what you need to know about the parade:

11:00 a.m. - Sign in will be outside of Beauchamp Library at 2111 South Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13205
 
12:00 p.m. - Parade Route: The parade will leave Beauchamp Library promptly at 12:00 p.m. heading west on Colvin Street toward Midland Avenue. Left on Midland Avenue.  Right on West Lafayette Avenue (1 block past Brighton Avenue) where it ends at Brighton Academy Middle School parking lot (the address for Brighton Academy is 309 West Brighton Avenue, Syracuse, NY 13205.  The event takes place at the back entrance located on West Lafayette Avenue). Note: The parade does not return to Beauchamp Library.

1:00-4:00 p.m. - Children's Book Festival: After the parade, join the fun at Brighton Academy parking lot and auditorium.
 
There will be food, games, prizes, free books, and information about learning opportunities for children, youth and adults. There will also be a variety of special entertainment.
 
In case of rain: Parade may be cancelled. Festival events will still take place at Brighton Academy Middle School.
