MERIT 2020 Application
You are here because you are a teacher or educational leader who wants to bring what you do to a new level, working with other dynamic educators to focus on technology’s possibilities with creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.

MERIT (Making Education Relevant through Innovative Teaching) is open to educators from around the United States. There are also a few spots for international teachers who are fluent in English. Only California teachers (who must have been a resident for at least 12 months) are eligible for units and stipends upon completion of the program. (International applicants should thoroughly read the information here: http://bit.ly/merit20nr.)

Before beginning the application, understand that MERIT is a year-long commitment, starting in April of 2020 and finishing in March of 2021.

All MERIT participants must attend the ten-day Summer Institute, which will run from Tuesday, July 7 ’20, through Friday, July 17 ’20. The program runs from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm every day except Sunday the 12th, when we will not meet.

For California participants, there are four in-person follow-up days twice each during Foothill’s fall and winter quarters.

Overview

Before you get started with this online application, we highly recommend you download the PDF version to review the questions and draft your responses first: http://bit.ly/merit20doc

There are open-ended questions that require you to write your response in 150 words or less. We recommend working on your answers where you can easily count the words, and then pasting your responses into the online form before submitting. Because there is no easy way to save a partially completed form, you should be ready to paste your prepared answers to all questions when you begin to fill out the form.

When you're ready with your prepared responses, return to this form to submit your answers. Remember that you must also get your principal or head of school to complete a recommendation for you. The Principal Support Form is another Google Form: http://bit.ly/merit20psf

Your application and your principal's recommendation are due by:
January 31, 2020, 11:59 p.m. Pacific time.
