The Illinois General Assembly continues to have many challenges, and I would like to get your opinion on a number of important issues that face our community and our state. Your thoughts and comment will help me craft our district agenda and make important decision on the legislation that comes before us.
The Speaker of the Illinois House has been in office since 1971—making him the longest-serving state legislative leader in U.S. history. Do you support term limits for legislative leadership positions like President of the Senate and Speaker of the House?
Should the Illinois Constitution be amended to take the process of drawing legislative district maps out of the hands of elected representatives to make the state’s redistricting process independent and non-partisan?
Pay disparity between men and women is an ongoing problem, and employers asking for salary history can be a major factor. Do you believe employers should be prohibited from asking prospective employees about their salary history?
Recreational use of marijuana is currently legal in eight states. Do you think Illinois should become the next state to legalize the recreational use?
Would you support or oppose a reduction in your property taxes, if it meant less funding for your schools, parks and town?
Do you support or oppose the increase in the state income tax that was passed last year in Illinois?
In the past three years, have you been the victim of crime in your community?
In the past three years, would you say the level of crime in your community has increased, stayed about the same or decreased?
Bump stock devices are used specifically to make semi-automatic weapons function similar to fully automatic weapons. Under current law, it is illegal to possess fully automatic weapons but it not illegal to attach bump stocks to semi-automatic weapons in order to increase the rate of fire so they operate much like a fully automatic weapons. Are you in favor of outlawing the purchase, possession and sale of bump stocks in Illinois?
Do you believe that individuals caught repeatedly abusing opioid prescription drugs without a prescription should continue to receive costly treatments and recovery services, or do you think they should receive jail time?
Would you support additional funding from the government to be directed toward the research, protection and treatment of opioid addiction?
Legislation continues to be introduced for Illinois to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to the U.S. Constitution, making it the 28th Amendment. Please indicate the degree to which you agree or disagree with the following statement: “I would support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that guarantees equal rights for both men and women.”
