The Center for Racial Justice is excited to host American poet, Airea D. Matthews at Weill Hall. Airea will be in conversation with Ford School writing instructor, Molly Spencer, and will also read selections from her recently published book,
Bread and Circus. A reception will follow with light refreshments in The Becky Great Hall.
Airea D. Matthews received several awards for her writing and poetry. She received the prestigious 2016 Yale Series of Younger Poets Award as well as earning a 2020 Pew Fellowship. Her work has appeared in Poetry Ireland, The New York Times, Georgia Review and numerous other publications. Matthews holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania as well as an M.F.A. from the Helen Zell Writers' Program and an M.P.A. from the Gerald Ford School of Public Policy, both at The University of Michigan. She is an associate professor and co-directs the poetry program at Bryn Mawr College, where she was presented the Lindback Distinguished Teaching award.
