Sunrise Film Festival 2026 - Online Pre-Selectors (Screening Committee)

Sunrise Film Festival, based in Lowestoft, Suffolk, UK, was founded in 2021 and is run voluntarily by passionate independent film enthusiasts and filmmakers to provide an important accessible platform for filmmakers like themselves every August.

We're passionate about creating a platform for filmmakers who are yet to be discovered (or picked up by the bigger film festival circuit), whilst making film accessible and proudly showcasing independent film to new audiences across overlooked communities.

We are committed to discovering new emerging talent and working-class filmmakers who are yet to be discovered on bigger platforms and across the industry.

Whilst focusing on sharing progressive and underrepresented stories, across lived experience on screen, societal and environmental issues.

Why do we need a screening committee?
We ensure that each film has been viewed independently by at least 4 different screeners (this is you) to ensure each submission is treated fairly and to allow us to keep unconscious bias out of the process, which will subsequently shape and guide our long list of films to consider for programming. Most importantly, you are the first external public eyes to watch our submissions, which is invaluable to supporting our festival processes.

As a pre-selector on our online Screening Committee, you will receive 20-30 films to watch in your own time, and personally critique them via a scoring system, where you will also give concise written feedback on each film watched.

All members of our screening committee are given free access to our festival with a complimentary pass and are publicly acknowledged every year in our programme and on our website.

As a screening committee member you will agree to the following terms:

  • Watch a minimum of 20-30 films, which will be assigned to you on a rolling basis until February 2026.
  • Provide a score on each film reviewed by you for Sunrise Film Festival.
  • Provide concise written feedback/notes on each, on why you came to your decisions on FilmFreeway.
  • You agree not to watch any film assigned to you to view that might be considered a conflict of interest, including films created by committee members’ friends, family or colleagues, and on the occasion that there may be a conflict of interest, you will make Sunrise Film Festival aware immediately.
  • You agree to review each film in its entirety.
  • An understanding that any films screened by you that are chosen/not chosen to be a part of Sunrise Film Festival does not indicate you programmed that film.
  • Keep all screening links and films viewed private, and do not share them with any third parties.
