Spring 2026 New Advocate Application
***Please read this section carefully as there are important dates to make note of. This application is for those wanting to work in the Durham office ONLY; please do not apply if you are unable to work in Durham! If you are interested in volunteering at the Chapel Hill office instead, please email tristans@communityempowermentfund.org*

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Community Empowerment Fund (CEF)! CEF is a local non-profit with offices in Durham and Carrboro that creates a community of support to address issues related to economic justice, housing insecurity, and houselessness. CEF connects volunteer advocates with community Members to work towards their long-term goals. Members and advocates work together to navigate any barriers that may come up. Everything done at CEF is guided by Members' lived experiences of the complex social service landscapes of Durham and Orange Counties.

We are seeking volunteer advocates who can commit to working with Members long-term – before, during, and well beyond their transitions out of housing and economic insecurity. A great advocate is someone who is committed to lifelong learning, racial equity, and most importantly, someone who wants to build community with those living in Carrboro and Durham. We ask all advocates to work in our office at least 2 hours a week. We will prioritize those who can commit to at least 1 year in the application process. Please be honest about your capacities when applying for this position.

**Background knowledge is not a requirement because CEF provides initial and ongoing learning opportunities. For more information visit: https://communityempowermentfund.org/be-an-advocate/**
