RISK REDUCTION
There is some measure of risk when helping others during this pandemic. As such, we would like to minimize human interaction. This means things can be ordered online for delivery OR dropped off at the door. We encourage lots of handwashing for those volunteering to help and for recipients to disinfect whatever they receive at the door.

Those choosing to help are choosing to take on this risk.
---

We will be asking our volunteers to submit a vulnerable sector clearance and/or references and also sign a waiver to protect those we are assisting in the community.
---

Here are some guidelines and tips for our volunteers to stay safe, for you and your families as well as those we are serving:

-Practise social distancing - keep at least 2 meters away from others
-Avoid touching surfaces as much as possible
-Use your non-dominant hand for doorknobs, bathrooms, picking stuff up in stores, etc.
-Advise your volunteer coordinators if you come across anyone who may have been at risk and monitor yourself for symptoms
-If you feel unwell, advise your volunteer coordinators, isolate yourself and monitor symptoms
-Inform those you’ve been in close contact with
-As much as possible, avoid public transport or car share
-Wash your hands regularly with soap & hot water for at least 20 seconds
-Wash your hands when you arrive at work & get home
-Use hand sanitizer gel if no soap & water is available
-Cover mouth & nose with a tissue or your sleeve if you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue away immediately & wash your hands
-Don’t touch your eyes, nose, or mouth if your hands aren’t clean
-Clean your desk, monitor, keyboard & phone regularly
-Carry tissues at all times in case you need to sneeze or cough
-People may be anxious at times like this, especially if they have a medical condition or are used to living alone and being independent. Be understanding and ask rather than assume
-Do not arrive unannounced as much as possible
-If helping people with groceries or medication, ask them to wash or wipe down stuff before storage or use, as much as possible.
-Keep your hands in your pockets as a way to avoid unconsciously touching your face.
