Felicia Sanders of Department of Natural Resources has shared her plans to band Red Knots on Seabrook Island sometime between April 16 and April 20. Exact date, time and location is dependent upon Red Knots being in area, tides, etc.
Volunteers will be needed for a variety of tasks including but not limited to:- Educating others on the beach regarding what we are doing to avoid their flushing Knots or interfering with installed nets- Assist in installing nets to capture Red Knots- Remove birds from nets and placed in holding tents- Delivery of birds from holding tents to processing areas- Scribe of data provided by DNR regarding bird size, age, band number- Release of processed birds- Photography of processEach person would likely do one or multiple of the above activities based upon need. (Remember your prior job's catch all phrase "and other duties as assigned"). You will not be asked to do activities you are uncomfortable doing. The day could be from 4 to 8 hours but partial day participation has been welcomed in the past.
As always, be sure to bring your binoculars, hats and sunscreen. Water and snacks are recommended
