Riverside Park Community Association (RPCA) is partnering with Just Food to bring the Seed and Soil Program to Riverside Park on Saturday May 16th! This provides you with free seeds, soil, and information to grow vegetable plants in your garden, yard, or balcony. Your garden can feed your family and friends Good Food!
Please complete this Registration Form so that the correct amount of soil is delivered for our community.
Once you have completed the Registration Form, wait until Saturday May 16th! Then travel to Ernie Calcutt Park (759 Mooney's Bay Place) between 12 and 4 pm. Visit the Seeds & Soil Table to sign in and pick up your Seeds and Information Sheet. Then walk to the soil loading area to pick up your soil. BONUS: You can also participate in our COMPOST FUNDRAISER (where you can purchase bulk Greely's Mushroom Compost for $10 a bin - a significant savings!). Visit https://forms.gle/oj2jAShpzpprpPDC6 to learn more and sign up.
IMPORTANT:
1. This program prioritizes support for those who self-identify as experiencing income-related or other barriers that impact their ability to access food or gardening. This can include but is not limited to: a social, mobility, mental health, or language barrier or limited garden literacy. If you are new to vegetable gardening this includes you! We don't need to know what the challenge is - we want everyone to have opportunities to grow their own food. That said, this program is open to everyone so we encourage everyone to still sign up. We will do the prioritizing.
2. Please bring your own containers (equivalent to 3 recycling bins) to carry the soil. NOTE: Regular garbage bags may not be strong enough. Consider reusing soil or mulch bags.
3. You are responsible for loading your own soil into your containers and transporting the soil to your home. Shovels will be available to use. Caveat: If you have a mobility challenge and will require help with shovelling, loading and/or bringing the soil to your residence. Please note this in the form. We will do our best to help remove these barriers.
BONUS! On Saturday May 16th, RPCA is also hosting their annual Seed and Seedling Giveaway & Fundraiser featuring vegetable plants and seeds and native pollinator plants. There will be free children's activities as well and we will also be collecting non-perishable food and donations for the Brookfield Community Food Cupboard.
