For nearly five decades, the Women's & Children's Crisis Shelter (WCCS) has served as a trusted refuge for survivors of domestic violence in Southeast Los Angeles County. Founded in 1977, WCCS has evolved from a grassroots shelter network into a comprehensive, trauma-informed organization that provides free, culturally responsive, wraparound services to individuals and families in crisis.

Our strategic Direction & Priorities are: 1) Financial Growth & Stability, 2) Team Development & Culture, 3) Organizational Infrastructure, 4) Leadership & Governance, 5) Service Quality & Innovation, and 6) Community Engagement & Visibility.

Responsibilities of Individual Board Members: 1) Serve one 3-year term on the Board with an option for reelection, 2) Attend all regular monthly meetings of the Board of Directors, 3) Stay well-informed about WCCS business by reading all board materials (minutes, financial statements, etc.), 4) Take seriously the legal, fiscal and ethical responsibilities the Board carries, 5) Contribute to fundraising projects and events, 6) Function as a goodwill ambassador and spokesperson for WCCS and its programs, 7) Assist in the recruitment of volunteers to augment the Board, and 8) Be dues-paying members of the Women's & Children's Crisis Shelter.
