(1) Parent/legal guardian and student must be Gaston County residents (2) Score a level III/IV/V on 7th grade reading EOG test (3) Score a level III/IV/V on 7th grade math EOG test (4) 7th grade overall "C" or 70 minimum average (5) 94% attendance rate and (6) good standing in conduct. **Non-Gaston County School applicants, please submit the 7th grade final report card and 7th grade standardized test scores administered at your student's school. Instructions for submission are at the end of this application.

World History is a High School graduation requirement. Gaston County School students who had World History in 7th grade and received high school credit have met this requirement. If you received high school credit for World History, you have the option of choosing AP World History or an additional elective as one of your course selections. Students who choose "AP World History" should be highly motivated and committed to doing AP level work. It is recommended that students received a final grade of 90 or higher in World History in order to take AP World History. Students who choose "Additional Elective" will be given one of the electives they choose in the Elective alternate choices question later on in the application.

Please select your choice for elective. All freshmen will take Health/PE, Microsoft IT Academy A and one other pathway course. *Spanish I is offered as an elective at Highland, but due to limited space students will not be able to take it until their sophomore year. Gaston County School students who had high school Spanish I in middle school may choose Spanish II as an elective but must show credit in course #1142YOHS. Non-Gaston County School students who had Spanish I in middle school may choose Spanish II as an elective but must pass a placement test. Students who choose Spanish II will receive more information about placement if selected in the lottery.
Elective alternate choices - Must Choose 3 *
Choose three alternates to be used if your first elective choice does not fit in your schedule. If you do not choose three alternate electives you may be placed in an elective you did not choose. *Spanish I is offered as an elective at Highland, but due to limited space students will not be able tot take it until their sophomore year. Initially accepted and waitlisted students from any private, charter, home school, or from any school outside of Gaston County Schools must verify residency in Gaston County with the GCS Student Assignment Office no later than May 1, 2019 to remain on the initially accepted list or waitlist.
