The Mentorship Application
Thank you for your interest in joining the Mentorship Program!

Welcome to your first step in joining the team!  As a mentee, you'll support your mentors (the counselors) in facilitating activities and making connections with kids, and you'll gain the experience you need to be a counselor and leader in any summer program lucky enough to have you in the future.

The deadline for submitting this application is the first day of camp at the location you hope to attend. No applications will be considered after that date.

The Mentorship Expectations and Policies

Before submitting your application, we ask all prospective Mentees to review these expectations with a guardian.  After reviewing, both of you should indicate that you understand these policies by checking the corresponding boxes.

1.  Mentees are held to the highest standards.  They are expected to follow the Steve & Kate's Camper responsibilities: be safe, be respectful (of yourself and others), and take care (of equipment and the camp environment).

2.  Mentees are not staff members.  They cannot discipline campers, and they should never be alone with kids.  They are in camp to be role models to our campers and support counselors while learning about what it takes to work in camp.

3.  It is suggested that Mentees attend camp for five consecutive days when they begin the program. This is how they are best set up for success and get the most out of the experience.

4.  While being a Mentee can be very fun, it will often require putting the fun of the campers ahead of your own. While we try our best to have Mentees help lead activities they are excited about and to give them some choice throughout the day, there may be times when the needs of campers or staff take priority.

5.  While Mentees will never be left alone with campers, they won't necessarily have a single staff member who’s instructing them or “mentoring” them throughout the day. Mentees should be self-motivated, able to identify ways to help at camp, and stay on task on their own without a lot of direction. Their experience will mostly be determined by what they make of it and what they put into it.

6.  If a Mentee is struggling with any of the above-mentioned expectations, interfering with the staff’s ability to deliver a safe and positive experience for campers, or generally detracting from the overall camp experience, they may be asked to no longer participate in the Mentorship Program.

The Mentorship Procedures (To be Review by the Guardian(s)): steps to register

Step 1: Submit this application
Step 2: Wait to hear from your camp director (this should be within one week).
Step 3: If your director tells you that your mentee was accepted into the program, you will create a "camper account" through our website.  Do not buy days at this time.
3a: While registering, you will see an error message that your child is too old for camp.  Ignore that message and complete registration (without purchasing days).
3b:  Once registration is complete, notify your director through email.
Step 4: Your director will activate a Mentorship discount and email you when you should purchase camp days. If this is your mentee's second year in the program, they will provide a code for a free summer.
