Show how much you love Monterey Bay, volunteer for Annual Coastal Cleanup Day!
We hold dozens of cleanups along the Central Coast on Saturday, September 21. By participating, you make a positive impact on our beautiful Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and prevent trash from entering the ocean. All cleanups take place from 9am-noon, but it is suggested you show up fifteen minutes prior to get instructions.

Cleanups Along the California Central Coast
All cleanups are Saturday September 21 and take place from 9am-noon. IF A PARTICULAR BEACH DOESN'T APPEAR, THE CLEANUP IS FULL AT THAT SITE. Please choose another location to volunteer!
SANTA CRUZ LOCATIONS
20th Avenue Beach & Corcoran Lagoon: Check-in will be located at the end of 20th Ave off of East Cliff Drive right above the beach. There is a small pathway and stairs from 20th Ave down to the beach. There are no bathrooms or drinking fountains available. Volunteers can also choose to clean around Corcoran Lagoon.
Ano Nuevo State Beach: Check in will be located at the beginning of the trail to the beach in the dirt parking lot.
Three Mile Beach: Meet at the beginning of the trail to the beach in the small pullout.
Four Mile Beach: Check in located at dirt parking lot along Highway 1. Save Our Shores signs will mark the entrance to the parking area. Volunteers will be sent down the beach path to 4 Mile. No bathrooms or drinking fountains.
Bonny Doon: Check-in will be located near the beach path from the parking lot. You will be able to see the check-in table from the Highway. There are no bathrooms or drinking fountains available.
Cowell Beach & Santa Cruz Main Beach (run by the Dream Inn:) Check-in will be located down on Cowell Beach right off from the Cowell Beach parking lot. There are bathrooms and drinking fountains available. Volunteers will be sent to clean both Cowell Beach and Santa Cruz Main Beach.
Greyhound Rock Beach: Check-in will be located in the main parking lot at the top of the beach access trail. Bathrooms available.
Hidden Beach (Supported by the Rio Del Mar Improvement Association): Check in will be located at the end of Cliff Drive before the playground.
Laguna Creek Beach: Parking will be available in the parking lot along Highway 1. If heading north on Highway 1, the parking lot will be on your right side. Volunteers will need to cross Highway 1, cross the tracks, and walk up the hill along the dirt road to where this road meets another road. This is where the check-in table will be: all volunteers should check in at the table. There are no bathrooms or drinking fountains available.
Lompico Creek: Check in will be located at the bus stop at Lompico Park
Mitchell's Cove: Check-in located at the top of the beach stairs right off of West Cliff Drive near the intersection of Sunset Ave. There are no bathrooms or drinking fountains.
Moran Lake Beach: Check-in will be located right along East Cliff Drive on Moran Lake Beach directly across from the main parking lot which is located across the street from the beach. There are bathrooms and drinking fountains available.
New Brighton Beach: Check-in located at the top of the beach stairs right off the main parking lot for New Brighton State Beach. Bathrooms and drinking fountains available.
Pajaro River: Meet at Pajaro Park
Palm Beach State Park: Check-in for Palm State Beach will be located in the main parking area at the end of West Beach Street. There are bathrooms and drinking fountains available.
Pleasure Point Beaches: Check-in will be located in parking area at the end of 41st Avenue and East Cliff Drive. There are bathrooms and showers available. Volunteers will be sent to clean beaches between 41st Avenue and 32nd Ave.
Santa Cruz Wharf SCUBA Cleanup: All volunteers wanting to participate in the dive cleanup must pre-register through the Aqua Safaris website. They will be coordinate meeting location with you directly.
Scott Creek Beach: Check-in will be at the parking lot just south of the bridge. Parking is along either side of Hwy 1 but early birds will have options for parking lot. There are no bathrooms or drinking fountains.
Seacliff State Beach: Check in will be located to the side of the main entrance of the beach, across from the parking lot (between the Visitor Center and the pier to the cement boat).
Shark Fin Cove: Check-in will be located at the beginning of the dirt trail to the beach in the dirt parking lot. There are no bathrooms or drinking fountains available.
Sunny Cove: Check-in will be located at the end of Johans Beach Drive. Port-a-potty bathrooms are available, but no drinking fountains.
Waddell State Beach: Check-in will be located in the main parking area for Waddell Creek Beach right off of Highway 1 across from the entrance to Big Basin State Park. Bathrooms available.
San Lorenzo River @ The Tannery Arts Center: Check-in will be located at the 2nd entrance to the Tannery Arts Buildings. The address for the Tannery is 1040 River St. Go past the first entrance near Encinal intersection and enter across from the Michael Angelos studios. Table will be right next to the metro bus terminal.
San Lorenzo River @ Felker St. (HWY 1 overpass) to Soquel Ave: Check in will be at the end of Josephine St., where it connects to the Riverwalk.
San Lorenzo River @ Soquel Ave to Rivermouth
San Lorenzo River @ Fillmore Ave. (Ben Lomond): The meet up location for the Ben Lomond site is Hwy 9 at Fillmore Ave between Mountain Feed Store and the Tyrolean Inn. There is temporary parking on the street, but most folks sign in and then take their cars to the various places needing clean-up and park there. There is a shade canopy with the table on the sidewalk. The street is cordoned off and there is an A-frame sign showing where to come at the side of the road.
San Lorenzo River @ Village Wash & Dry Laundromat (Boulder Creek): Check-in for this site is located behind the Village Wash n Dry, on Hwy 9 at 12890 Hwy 9. Drive in, sign in, get supplies, etc, and then drive to any of the many areas needing work.
Watsonville Slough @ City of Watsonville Nature Center in Ramsay Park: Check in will be outside the Nature Center. There will be a canopy and table set up for check-in.
Watsonville City Plaza: We will be located in front of the Plaza Gazebo phasing Main Street. Look out for the Public Works Canopy
West Struve Slough @ Pajaro Valley High School: Meet at the bottom of the hill at Pajaro Valley High School. Our Check in table will be right at the corner entrance of the school. You will see it on your right hand side after you cross the bridge going over HWY 1.
Garrapata State Beach: Please meet us in the dirt pull out on the south-bound side of HWY 1, approximately 16 mi south of Rio Rd. There is a bus stop nearby as well as designated parking for Garrapata State Beach.
Lover's Point Beach: Check-in will be located in the main parking area off of Ocean View Blvd.
Moss Landing State Beach: Check in will be located in the parking lot at the end of Jetty Road.
Salinas River National Wildlife Refuge: Check-in will be located in the parking lot at the end of Del Monte Blvd which turns into Neponset Rd. This site is directly north of Marina.
Salinas River State Beach at Molera Rd: Check-in will be located in main parking area off of Monterey Dunes Way from Molera Rd.
Sand City Beach at West Bay Street: Check-in will be located right at the beach access path at the end of West Bay Street. Parking is along West Bay Street.
Arroyo Seco: Los Padres National Forest, Soledad - Meet in the Day Use Parking Lot. Remember to bring gloves and sun screen.
Upper Carr Lake: Check in will be located at the clearing at Upper Carr Lake off of E. Laurel Drive
THINGS TO DO TO PREP FOR YOUR CLEANUP
WAIVER: Fill out the Coastal Commission waiver.
. By having everyone in your party fill it out online beforehand, you will save paper and a lot of time! (If you cannot sign it beforehand, we will have paper waivers available at your cleanup site.)
APP: Download the Clean Swell App. It's available in the App Store and Google Play.
Participants will collect data about what they find at the cleanup. You can download Ocean Conservancy's app "Clean Swell" to save time and paper. Signup and create a login. (We will have paper data cards available if you're not able to get the app.)
BYOG: Bring your own gear! Gloves, bucket, grabbers, and filled reusable water bottles
We will have hundreds of volunteers for ACC and would like to reduce our footprint. Help us out by bringing your own!
