Thank you for your interest!
I'm the owner of Jaclyn Hope Design, a small web and SEO agency based near Seattle, WA. We produce high-quality, converting websites and solutions, with detailed SEO work on every site. Our clients are both service and product-based businesses. The majority are women entrepreneurs and business owners. We have a small team of designers and developers and are looking to add another web designer independent contractor to our team.
We're growing at break-neck speed and need regular support moving forward with web design and development. I need someone who has a great eye for design but who can also get in the weeds with more technical tasks. You must be familiar with all platforms: our clients are on Wordpress, Squarespace, Shopify, and occasionally others. I'd love to work with sometime who is independent and can tackle projects without a lot of oversight, troubleshooting tech issues, figuring out responsiveness, install and use plugins, etc. You will be given responsibility with project management and client communication, so you must be comfortable emailing and talking to clients. I'm a super supportive and accommodating person - but I also need someone who is dependable and can meet deadlines with high quality work. I need someone who can take ownership of clients and tasks without a lot of hand-holding.
What I'm looking for in a designer:
Strong visual design skills with a modern, strategic eye for layout, typography, color, spacing, and overall brand presentation. We want websites that feel polished and intentional.
Solid technical understanding of web platforms and responsive design. Must be comfortable troubleshooting issues, working with custom code when needed, and understanding how websites actually function behind the scenes, not just how they look.
Experience designing with both user experience and SEO in mind. You should understand how to balance aesthetics with conversion strategy, accessibility, site structure, page speed, and real-world usability.
Ability to take direction while also thinking critically and proactively. We value designers who can problem-solve, make thoughtful recommendations, and communicate clearly with both clients and team members.
Strong portfolio showcasing a range of custom website projects with clean execution, attention to detail, and consistency across desktop and mobile design. Clean, modern, pretty sites.
Details & Requirements:
- This is a contract position on a as-need basis. I'm estimating 10-12 hours per week to start with future opportunities as the business keeps growing.
- Sometimes quick turn arounds happen. Occasionally you'll be asked to finish small projects (1-3 hours) within 2-3 business days. Most other projects (usually 3-6 hours of work at a time) have a 4-7 business day turn around. I'm happy to work around your schedule.
- You must be based North America. Full stop.
- This will be paid weekly at an hourly rate $35-40 per hour depending on experience and skill.
- If brought on, we'll start with a couple of projects to see how you do and if we're a good fit together.
