I have had the pleasure of being a class teacher at Gateway for over 5 years and it is the first time I believe that there is a strong coherent vision of what our school could become. I believe that by becoming a staff Governor it would allow me to support this in a more productive way and further develop our school’s community links. I believe that these stronger community links are essential to raise both our children’s and parental aspirations and engender a positive attitude toward education. It is my ambition that this will ultimately support closing the achievement gap for our children.

As I came to teaching following a career in internal audit and accountancy, I believe that my varied professional knowledge and personal experiences could be used to enhance our academy council. I believe I have the ability to put personal preferences to one side thus enabling me to take a strategic view in the interest of pupils and whole school, but always keeping the classroom and children’s learning at the of heart of decision making.

I wish to drive the academy forward with both enthusiasm and tenacity, whilst allowing the opinion of our peers to be heard by the board. My adaptability, reliability, experience and attitude all reflect the principles and ethos of the school and I feel these will be upheld should I be considered for the position of staff governor.

I do not see my role within the school as a job, I see it as a career path and vocation. By supporting and assisting the staff and pupils of the academy, we are helping to develop and nurture the minds of the next generation and promote a stronger and healthier outcome for our children whilst ensuring the highest standard of teaching is provided.

I have experience in strategic leadership and management, and with strong links within the community and with parents, this will provide the school a position to strengthen its relationship within the area as I am multilingual. I am aware of the responsibilities of a staff governor as I have completed a Governor’s for Schools course. My skill sets and strengths are transferable and adaptable to suit the role of governor and to help improve the school further.
