Join Us Helping Us, People into Living Inc. for the Invisible Crisis Series: Film Screening, Panel Discussion, and Overdose Prevention Training, a two-day public health event held at the Blackburn Digital Theater in collaboration with the Howard Student Health Center. This series will examine the opioid overdose crisis as it impacts Black and urban communities (namely Philadelphia and Washington D.C)—an aspect of this epidemic that is often overlooked in mainstream media and public discourse—and provide training on life saving techniques in overdose response on the following day.
On Wednesday, March 4th, we will screen OPIOIDS: A Breakdown of the Invisible Overdose Crisis in the Black Community, followed by a panel discussion featuring public health practitioners, community leaders, and subject-matter experts. The conversation will explore opioid trends in cities like Philadelphia and Washington, DC, and highlight the structural, social, and racial factors that shape overdose risk, access to care, and community response. The event will be hosted in the Blackburn Digital Theater from 5:00pm-7:00pm.
On Thursday, March 5th, participants are invited to attend a certificate-bearing Overdose Prevention (Naloxone/Narcan) Training, which will cover overdose recognition, response, and naloxone administration, with a focus on real-world application in community settings. The event will also be hosted in the Blackburn Digital Theater from 12:00pm-1:00pm.
These events are designed for Howard students, staff, and community members interested in public health, social justice, harm reduction, and community wellness. Attendance is free, but registration is required.
