This spring, we are showcasing works of Aaron Copland. The featured work will be the orchestral version of Copland's iconic Appalachian Spring, which was written in the Somerset Hills 75 years ago this summer. The Somerset Hills Chorus will be singing four of Copland's best choral songs: Zion's Walls, Simple Gifts, At the River, and Promise of Living.
The rehearsal schedule is posted as part of the signup below. It is mainly Monday evenings from 7:30-9:30 beginning on May 6 with two Friday evening sectional rehearsals in May as well. Rehearsals take place in the Parish Hall at the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church until the weekend of the concert when we will move to the Lake Club in Far Hills.
The Somerset Hills Chorus was developed to help ALL who love to sing become better singers in a supportive yet challenging environment. You do not need to have previous experience. Every effort is made to ensure everyone is comfortable with the music as soon as possible. Seating near an experienced professional is possible during rehearsals, as needed. Music will be emailed as pdf's to those who sign up. Sheet music will be distributed at the first rehearsal and is yours to keep after the concert. Practice sound files will be available for rehearsing your music at home.
For this special concert, instead of our usual formula of donation or ticket sales, chorus members are asked only to pay for their own reserved ticket to the event. In addition, chorus members are expected to actively participate in helping MISH fundraise and to actively promote our concerts to family, friends and organizations in the area.
Students between the ages of 14-18 participate for free, but are asked to offer tickets to family and friends as much as possible.
