Acting Conservatory
GRADES 9 - 12

The Acting Conservatory is a multi-year program for high school students who have a serious desire to pursue an in depth training experience in acting. The goal of the program is to provide students with the professional acting training, resume experience, and audition preparation needed in order to pursue a life in the theatre--whether that be as an actor, director, writer, teacher, or dramaturge. Each year, company members will receive two semesters of an advanced level acting class and exclusive master-class opportunities taught by industry professionals from LA, NYC, Europe and more. In addition to individualized career and college counseling, members are also guaranteed one performance opportunity each year to build their resume. During the fourth year of the program, students will focus on audition technique of all forms including cold reading, ensemble auditioning, and material showcases with an emphasis on preparing students for their college auditions.

Conservatory students have been the recipients of B. Iden Payne Awards and Greater Austin High School Musical Awards Best Actor Awards. They have worked with Austin theatre companies such as ZACH Theatre, Austin Shakespeare, The City Theatre, and The Vortex. They have also done numerous commercial projects and worked on local and feature films. Graduates of the program are excepted into an average of 9 schools per student and receive and average of $50,000 in scholarships.

For Rising Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors:
Please prepare a one-minute memorized monologue from a play and be prepared to talk about why you would like to be a part of the Conservatory.

For Rising Seniors:
The audition process for seniors is somewhat more strenuous. The other students in the Conservatory have spent their sophomore and junior years building a book of appropriate monologue material to use in their college auditions and any new student to the program will need to show they are ready to join the group--not only in talent but in preparation. Rising seniors will need to present 4 one to two minute long monologues of contrasting tone. One those 4 monologues must be from Shakespeare and in verse. Students will also need to bring paper copies of their audition material and be prepared to do a short interview on why they would like to join the Conservatory.

VIDEO SUBMISSIONS:
Onsite auditions are strongly preferred to video submission. However, you may send in a video submission if you are unable to attend audition dates.

VIDEO SUBMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS:
Deadline: August 17, 2019
You must still fill out the audition form on the next page.
Please email your head shot, resume, and video of two contrasting monologues (4 monologues for rising seniors--see above rising senior audition requirements) to Kate Shaw-Nappi at kshaw@zachtheatre.org
