Discover the Untold Story of Vanport
Join us for a powerful journey to Portland as we explore the rise, and sudden disappearance, of Vanport, once Oregon’s second-largest city. Named for its location between Vancouver and Portland, Vanport was built as a wartime housing project and became home to a vibrant, diverse community. On Memorial Day 1948, a catastrophic flood destroyed the city in a single day.
We’ll visit the former site, hear firsthand accounts from survivors, and reflect on enduring lessons about race, housing, and resilience in America.
