Jerusalem and Belfast are two cities that have suffered prolonged national conflicts with religious, territorial, and socio-economic dimensions. Each city expresses its national conflict in the local urban realm. The conflict affects the daily lives of those who live there, and also impacts the political sphere at the national level. * The Jerusalem Belfast Forum is a unique learning process that aims to help Jerusalemites change the existing reality in the city. *
It brings together politically and socially engaged Jerusalemites from different national, faith, and professional backgrounds to (1) examine their own city, (2) build inter-community partnerships and (3) learn lessons from another conflicted city, with the goal of inspiring creative and cooperative approaches for addressing the problems in Jerusalem today.
In this program, the core group will meet for 12 sessions between February 19 - June 13, 2018, and will travel to Belfast, Northern Ireland from April 29 - May 4, 2018. Sessions will be mostly on Mondays, at 16:30 - 20:00 in Jerusalem.
The dates for each session are: 19/02/18, 26/02/18, 05/03/18, 12/03/18, 19/03/18, 09/04/18, 16/04/18, 23/04/18, 09/05/18, 21/05/18, plus 2 smaller meetings to be scheduled individually between May 21 - June 13, 2018.
The first half of the program will focus on analyzing the dynamics and issues in Jerusalem today, while the second half of the program will focus on Belfast as a case study -- analyzing similarities and differences and identifying lessons that may be useful in the Jerusalem context and their potential application.
Participants must commit to participating in the full program.
ELIGIBILITY We are looking for politically and/or socially active residents of Jerusalem, who have demonstrated their commitment and ability to improve the reality around them. Applicants should also be curious to learn from others' experiences. As the program will be conducted mostly in English, applicants should have proficient communication skills in English.
Participants will be asked to contribute a small fee of 150 USD, which will help cover some of the program's expenses.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: December 28th, 2017
