Join us for an exciting summer filmmaking workshop at Chicago Filmmakers for LGBTQ+ identified, gender non-conforming, and ally teens. Learn how to use professional filmmaking equipment and editing software to create identity-focused work that challenges the status quo.

Chicago Filmmakers (5243 N. Clark St. Chicago, IL 60640) is a non-profit media arts organization that empowers local artists to create new work through production funding, equipment access, fiscal sponsorship, and other filmmaker services and resources; encourages the professional advancement of media artists through seminars, panel discussions, lectures, rough-cut and open screenings, as well as networking events and other opportunities for artistic exchange; and nurtures the development of aspiring filmmakers of all ages by offering classes, workshops, and summer camps. Chicago Filmmakers develops diverse film-going audiences through its year-round film and video exhibition programs and the production of two annual international film festivals. The LGBTQ+ Youth Project is supported by an IMPACT Grant from the LGBT Community Fund at the Chicago Community Trust.

All Scholarships Include:
*Full tuition for a course in digital filmmaking, editing, and media literacy with a focus on identity and representation in mainstream media

*Access to Chicago Filmmakers sound, video, and lighting equipment under the supervision of our highly-qualified teaching staff

*Support to produce identity-focused digital media projects during the 8-week session

*Optional CTA Pass (limited supply; first come, first served)

*Certificate of Completion upon finishing the class in good standing

General Requirements:
*Applicants must be committed to attending every class (barring illness or related circumstance) of the session they are applying for. Classes are held at Chicago Filmmakers (5243 N. Clark St.) in Andersonville. NOTE: If transportation to Chicago Filmmakers is cost prohibitive, you may request a complimentary CTA pass on your application. We have a limited number of CTA passes for this purpose.

*Applicants should have a sincere interest in supporting the LGBTQ+ community, regardless of how you personally identify.

*Applicants should be between 13 and 17 years old and should live in the Chicago area.

*Applicants should have a keen interest in film, video, and/or new media. No previous experience is necessary, just an interest and willingness to learn.

*Applicants should be willing to think critically about the media they consume every day and should be ready to challenge harmful stereotypes and under-representation!

*Applicants should be able to have FUN and be CREATIVE while learning about one of the coolest art forms in history.
