Application to San Marin High School STEM Programs

This is a common application for incoming ninth grade San Marin High School students interested in enrolling in either the Biotechnology Academy or STEM Marin Academy. Please note that the asterisk after each response indicates the response is required. It is recommended that the applicant print the application, complete written responses in a word-processing document and cut and paste responses from the word processing document to the application.

    Description of the Application Process

    Student applications are all submitted through this electronic form. The application deadline is Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 3:00 pm. Applications will be assessed for academic performance and potential, student interest, commitment, attendance, and behavior by a panel of unbiased industry partners. All applicants will be interviewed to assess critical thinking and problem solving skills and to clarify information provided in this application. Interviews will take place following the application deadline on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 through most of February. Student applicants currently enrolled in NUSD schools will be interviewed at their current school. Students not enrolled in NUSD will be interviewed at San Marin High School. Additional information will be sent with following the application deadline. Parents and students will be notified of acceptance by March 1, 2017. Both the Biotechnology Academy and STEM Marin Academy are equal access programs.

    Brief Academy Descriptions

    Biotechnology Academy- The Biotechnology Academy is for all students interested in STEM-related experiences. The curriculum focus is to support those specifically interested in biology and life science, with career interest in medical, biotechnology, and research fields. One highlight of the Biotechnology Academy is the ability for students to experience internships in local industry. Students in ninth grade are grouped together in their Biology, English, Health, and Get-Focused, Stay Focused courses. More information can be found at http://sanmarinbiotechacademy.weebly.com/ Course Progression: 9th -Technology of Biology 10th-Applied Chemistry and Biotechnology 11th-Biotech 1 12th-Biotech 2 STEM Marin Academy- STEM Marin is a comprehensive program for students who are passionate about science, technology, engineering, and math. Students agree to take two science classes every year of high school (8 science classes total during high school) as well as a math class each year (4 math classes total). All of the STEM Marin courses are Project Based so students will learn the content by creating projects and owning their own learning. The focus of STEM Marin is in developing students' Critical thinking, Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, and Work Ethic skills while covering STEM Content.
