Art Shanty Projects intentionally creates an impermanent art village on Minnesota lake ice amid changing climate and environment. With a spirit of embracing challenges through creativity, we support an ecosystem that inspires everyone to create and participate in art, thrive in winter, and build community.
Art Shanty Projects 2025 will be
Saturdays and Sundays, January 18 thru February 9th from 10am-4pm.
Our volunteer shifts are blocked in
4 hour intervals for
morning shifts from 9:30am-1:30pm and
afternoon shifts from 12:30pm-4:30pm.
Art Shanty Projects is located on Bde Umáŋ/Lake Harriet in Minneapolis, MN. Volunteer jobs are outside and the temperature will be chilly so remember to bundle up!
We need volunteers to do roles such as welcoming people at our gate, navigating people to the ice from the parking lot, answering general questions people may have, managing our kicksleds for a fun and also ADA accessible way on to the ice, and many more! As we plan for an in-person festival with continued COVID safety measures, we ask that all volunteers be prepared to wear a mask in designated spaces, including back-of-house spaces.
PERKS: In thanks for your service (and to ensure you have the best Art Shanty experience possible), volunteers get free parking and hot food and beverages on the day they volunteer, invitations to special member/artist events, and are not expected to make a monetary contribution at the gate (on their volunteer date or any date they choose to visit).
