In honor of Earth Month, STEM to the Sky is hosting a virtual speaker panel this April showcasing a variety of careers in environmental science! Our panelists are professors, climate action advocates, and environmental scientists who will share their journeys in environmental science and offer advice for students who hope to one day join the industry.
Join us at Making an Impact: Sustainability Careers that Change the World on Saturday, April 29 from 9:00-10:00 AM (EST)!
This panel will feature:
🐠🌴 Dr. Cinda Scott – Marine biologist, educator, and ocean equity advocate; directs The School for Field Studies' Center for Tropical Island Biodiversity Studies in Panama, studying tourism impacts on mangroves and advocating for marine protected areas and ocean equity.
🌿🛰️ Dr. Tatiana Loboda – Professor of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland; specializing in the impacts of wildfire on ecosystems and climate, conservation policies, and forecasting malaria outbreaks using satellite observations; investigator on numerous NASA projects.
🌊🔬 Dr. Anand Gnanadesikan – Professor and Chair of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Johns Hopkins University; formerly conducted research at Princeton and NOAA; studies how how mixing occurs in the ocean and how this mediates the interaction of ocean circulation with the atmosphere, cryosphere, and biosphere.
The event will begin with introductions from each panelist who will briefly talk about their background and experiences in their respective careers. We will then proceed to host a discussion and Q&A, where the audience can ask questions freely about their own curiosities and further learn about what it takes to work in environmental science!
We can’t wait to see you there!
