This training covers the following topics, both in an online course and via in-person workshops.
Supporting the PhD candidate throughout the trajectory: selecting the right candidate for the position; setting clear expectations and goals; making the best decision ahead of the 9 months go/no-go; supporting the ups and downs of the middle phase of the trajectory; clearing the way for the defense; supporting the future career of the PhD candidate.
Establishing a relationship of trust and support: preparing and structuring conversations; listening and asking probing questions; adjusting supervisory style to preference and type of PhD student; giving feedback both on content and on process; dealing with stress and finding external support; communicating effectively across cultures.
Personal and professional identity: personal values and their influence on supervision; development of a personal supervisory style; the context of supervision; fostering social safety in supervision.

In order to qualify for "Supervision Excellence" you are required to follow the online course and participate to a minimum of three workshops of your choice. We recommend that you choose a minimum of one workshop in each of the three blocks.
