2020 UMass Amherst Orff Schulwerk Festival Registration
Please read the information below and then complete/submit the registration form that follows. THANK YOU for choosing to attend the 2020 UMass Orff Festival. See you in March!

•REGISTRATION DEADLINE February 20, 2020.

• 10 PDPs available to in-service teachers who attend both days of the Festival for the full time! Please note: Topics and activities will be different on each day of the Festival, and will be drawn from the following: (a) singing, (b) jazz in elementary settings; (c) fresh and exciting new movement activities; (d) children's literature; (e) composition, (f) improvisation, and (g) musical activities in early childhood settings (Day 2 only).

Our Clinician:
Dr. Patrick Ware is an active Orff Schulwerk clinician and choral conductor at the local, state and national levels. With a service to education spanning more than 20 years, he holds a B.A. in Music from Westfield State University, an M.S. in Education from Radford University and a D.M.A. from the Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University. Patrick is a National Board Certified Teacher in Elementary and Middle Childhood Music. Having completed his Level III Orff-Schulwerk Certification and Movement Apprenticeship at George Mason University and subsequently completing his Basic Pedagogy Apprenticeship at University of Nevada Las Vegas, he teaches movement and recorder for the Central Florida University Orff Certification Program as well as teaching Level II Basic Pedagogy for the Los Angeles and Hofstra University Orff Certification Program. He is a former president of the Virginia Elementary Music Educators Association. He has published several compositions through Beatin’ Path Publications, including works for treble choir and works for Orff ensemble. Patrick teaches K-5 general music and chorus in Prince William County, Virginia. Special focus areas in his classroom and courses include jazz in the elementary setting and the use of children’s literature.

DAY 1: Wednesday, March 11 from 9 am - 3 pm in the UMass Old Chapel Great Room.
• Special day for elementary music teachers to attend solo and/or with up to 4 students in grades 4-6! Participate together in creative musical activities within the Orff Schulwerk approach!
• Collegiate music education majors and anyone interested in the Orff Schulwerk approach are also invited to attend!
• Pizza will be provided for lunch, or you can choose to explore the top-rated dining options in the Campus Center on your own. Registration fee is $10 per teacher*/$10 per student teacher*/$5 per elementary student*.

* Current UMass Amherst student teachers may attend free of charge. In-service teachers who have supervised (or are currently supervising) a UMass Amherst music student teacher may attend solo or with your elementary students free of charge!

DAY 2: Thursday, March 12 from 9 am - 3 pm in the UMass Old Chapel Great Room.
• This exciting day is geared toward UMass and area college/university music education majors, elementary music teachers, and anyone interested in the Orff Schulwerk approach!
• Lunch will be on your own, and you may wish to check out the award-winning Campus Center dining options! Registration fee is $10/attendee*.

* Current UMass Amherst music education majors (including student teachers) may attend free of charge. In-service teachers who have supervised (or are currently supervising) a UMass Amherst music student teacher may attend free of charge!
