Munk in the City is an experiential learning initiative organized by the Urban Policy Lab that brings Munk School students out of the classroom and into the community to see first-hand the challenges faced by residents across Toronto, and consider the urban policy solutions that can address these issues.
Our next walk will explore Ontario Place, a symbol of Toronto’s evolving relationship with public space and urban development. Originally conceived as a public park fostering a sense of belonging and optimism, Ontario Place now faces uncertainty as it balances its public heritage with new commercial interests, including the controversial Therme spa proposal. On this walk, we’ll examine the site’s history, its architectural and cultural significance, and the debates surrounding its future. This is an opportunity to reflect on how cities re-imagine spaces that once held symbolic importance and what Ontario Place’s journey says about the future of public spaces in Toronto. Join us to engage in meaningful discussions about urban policy and the role of public spaces in shaping the city’s identity.
