Flexible Learning Time (FLT) was implemented in response to student voice, with students seeking a reduction in pastoral care time to allow more time to complete assignments and homework, and participate in programs and activities. FLT has achieved this with no loss of core or elective learning time.
Another goal was to build relationships with the community including our successful partnership with University of Canberra Volunteer Tutors who join us every Wednesday. This time has also been used to develop independent learning skills in preparation for college.
In Term 3, of students in attendance on a Wednesday:
- 68.75% participated in a program, activity or study hall
- 31.25% signed out to study at home
In a recent survey, 87% of students indicated they find the FLT useful, particularly through participation in school based programs or study time. Our behaviour data indicates a reduction in disengaged behaviours across the week.
