Join Us for the 2023 FOSL Annual Conference in Houston, Texas on Thursday, July 13th through Sunday, July 16th
The 2023 Annual Conference of The Friends of Sierra Leone (FOSL) will be hosted in Houston, Texas on Thursday, July 13th through Sunday, July 16th. Please see the itinerary below, then complete the registration for in-person attendance as well as virtual attendance via Zoom.
  • Thursday, July 13th - Optional Friends of Sierra Leone Event for those interested (details to come!)
  • Friday, July 14th - FOSL Meet & Greet at the Italian Cultural Center (1101 Milford St, Houston, TX 77006) at 5pm. Sierra Leonean chop will be served!
  • Saturday, July 15th - FOSL Annual Meeting at Texas Southern University (3100 Cleburne St, Houston, TX 77004) from 9am to 3pm. Breakfast items & lunch will be served. There will be multiple speakers throughout the day with country updates, Peace Corps updates and more! Zoom access available for those who cannot attend in-person. In the evening, we will also host a Sierra Leonean Chop Party ($30 ticket) with more details to come soon!
  • Sunday, July 16th - Optional group outing to the Menil Collection (1533 Sul Ross St, Houston, TX 77006) to see African art at 11am, followed by an optional lunch out. Admission to the museum.
Registration and participation for the Houston Annual Conference is FREE for all active members of Friends of Sierra Leone.

All nonmembers will need to join Friends of Sierra Leone ($25 membership for one year) in order to attend these events. At the end of this registration, you will be provided with the link to join FOSL. So, please complete the following registration for the Annual Conference, then follow the link that will be provided in order to join FOSL. 

Note: If you do not want to officially join FOSL, you can pay the annual meeting registration fee ($25) with the link you will be provided at the end of this registration. Your membership fee will cover the cost of food for Friday dinner and Saturday breakfast/lunch.

One Google Form must be submitted for each person who plans on attending (in-person or virtually via Zoom) any of the weekend events. We will need an accurate number of attendees for planning purposes.

Houston has a vibrant folk art scene. On Friday morning (9:00am), we will travel short distances by car to introduce you to the well-known sites. Lunch is planned at a TexMex restaurant (11:30). In the afternoon (1:00), we'll go to more local art installations and museums. We will be finished by 4pm. Are you interested in attending these optional outings during the day on Friday (7/14/2023) to see the dynamic city of Houston, before the Meet & Greet event in the evening?
