Notes & Policies
The $250 participation fee is due by January 1.
This is just the PYB fee. The $175 Nutcracker fee is in addition to this.
Required
Rehearsals are throughout the school year. We try to provide each month's schedule a month in advance. Most rehearsals occur on Sat afternoons between 1-4pm, but Fri and Sun afternoons are occasionally necessary. We have off the weekend of Presidents' Day and several weekends after the Annual Spring Concert. Time off depends upon how many smaller community performances we book.
Required
The last rehearsal before a performance is MANDATORY if you want to participate in that performance.
Required
Performances: Nutcracker and the PYB Spring Concert are the two largest performances. There are usually 2-4 smaller community performances each semester. Sometimes only certain dancers are needed for an engagement, but usually all members are eligible to participate. Before each community performance, we send an email asking you to RSVP using an online form. Please reply by the requested date. Our ability to participate depends on how many PYB members can perform.
Required
We carefully and thoughtfully cast each production. There are many factors to consider, including level/age appropriateness of choreography, costume sizes, highlighting individual students' strengths, how dancers complement each other within a group, and the production as a whole.
Required
Please understand that you may not request or refuse a role. Every performance opportunity is a valuable chance to learn and grow. In addition to technique, we are teaching maturity, responsibility, respect, and a positive attitude. We expect all students to support each other and approach all choreography and rehearsals with a strong work ethic.
Required
If you are not or your child is not ready to accept the responsibility of being cast in any part or with any group of dancers, we strongly recommend waiting to audition. We want this to be a positive experience for all.
Required
PYB is a year-long commitment. Students are allowed 2 rehearsal absences for the FALL semester and 1 rehearsal absence for the SPRING semester (January through PYB Spring Concert). Excessive absences will lead to dismissal from the ensemble.
Required
Excellent attendance and work ethic in all technique classes is also required. Excessive lateness and/or 7+ absences per semester in regular classes will lead to a student's dismissal from PYB, even if rehearsal attendance is excellent.
Required
If a student is injured, they should tend to their injury and fully recover. We will not cast injured students if we deem it unsafe for them to perform.
Required

Summer Study
Summer dance training is a requirement for PYB members, though the training is not required to be here at PDA. Ballet 3/3X and Ballet 4/4X students should do a minimum of 2 weeks of study (4 weeks recommended). Level 5/5X and higher should complete 4-8 weeks of intensive training to maintain the pre-professional standards of the program.
