Designation of Class Section with Free Digital Course Materials
SB 1359 (https://goo.gl/O4SZSO) requires that courses using exclusively zero-cost (OER) digital textbooks or course materials be so labeled in the online class schedule by January 1, 2018. This form is to help us verify an instructor’s zero-cost textbook adoption. While there may be other fees associated with the course, the zero-cost textbook identifier mandates that there are no textbook-related costs, including access fees to related software. (“Zero-cost” applies to digital versions only; students purchasing hard copies of the free textbook are expected to pay for print fees.)

In addition, all course materials used must comply with copyright law and with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

If you have questions about the verification process or whether your class qualifies, please contact Orange Coast College's OER Grants Project Coordinator, Lori Cassidy, at lcassidy@occ.cccd.edu.

If you plan to teach different courses using free digital course materials, please submit a separate form for each distinct course. Multiple sections can be included on the same form. For example, if you are planning to teach both ENGL A101 and ENGL A102 with free materials, submit two forms - one for each course.
