The course is open to all those who received the Dzogchen transmission from Chögyal Namkhai Norbu.
This retreat will be based on the instructions on the Inner and Secret Rushen practices of Adzom Drukpa, Jigmed Lingpa, Senge Wangchuk and Changchub Dorje, which we can find in Rinpoche´s compilation The Stairway to Liberation.
The third part of this text explains the ngöndro (preliminary practices) typical for Dzogchen, which contains two main types of practice. The first one consists of the practices which help the practitioner to understand the difference between the ordinary mind and its nature. These practices work with separating these two and thus help us to distinguish between them. Therefore we call these practices „Khorde Rushen“, which means to separate "samsara from nirvana" or the mind conditioned by thoughts from the pure unconditioned state which is the essence of the mind.
The second type of practice consists of the trainings of body, voice and mind, or three gates, to understand and realize their true nature which is the Undesctructible Vajra. Training of the Body (lus sbyong) is also known as Vajra Posture and its purpose is to exhaust one´s body till the point when all mental activity automatically stops. Training of the Voice (ngag sbyong) works with the sound of the syllable HUM and different kinds of visualizations of this syllable, which represents the essence of the mind. Training of the Mind (blo sbyong) is based on recognizing that the origin of the thought is empty, the thought itself is empty and its effect is empty, too. By observing the nature of one´s own thoughts in this way, we will really understand - not only intelectual - the illusory nature of all phenomena.
Elio Guarisco was born in 1954 in Italy. He has been a member of the Dzogchen Community since 1986.
