The petition has now been submitted to Warwicks District Council , but will remain open as we may have further opportunities to submit it in the future.
OBJECTIONS
- The area is Green Belt and should remain so. It is highly productive arable farmland used for arable crops. There are no justifiable reasons for the land to be re-designated for housing.
- The area is part of the Historical Forest of Arden Landscape & is visible from Kenilworth Castle - a Grade 1 listed building. Housing would be visible from the Castle, which is against the Historic England guidelines.
- There is an abundance of wildlife living in these fields including European Skylarks and Yellowhammers, both of which are on the RSPB Red list. In addition Hares, Deer, Barn Owls, Swifts & Hedgehogs can be seen.
- There is little public transport and unlikely to be so just to serve this part of Kenilworth, hence the number of cars on the local roads will increase significantly.
- There are few employment opportunities locally, again resulting in an increase in the number of journeys by car on the local roads.
- Extra traffic on Rouncil Lane will cause yet more hold-ups on the junction with Warwick Road. The alternative route down Woodcote Lane to Leek Wootton has a dangerous junction where it meets the main road.
- Rouncil Lane is part of National Cycle Route 52, and is used by many cyclists including a lot of children who cycle to Kenilworth School from Leek Wootton. Vehicle traffic should be kept to as little as possible along this route.
- There is no provision for any additional infrastructure to help with already oversubscribed local schools, doctors & dentists.
- The out-of-date sewage pipes in the area are, and have been for many years, an ongoing issue. More houses along Rouncil Lane will completely overwhelm the system.
