題 目: Resource-efficient quantum simulation with error mitigation
要 旨:
Witnessing remarkable progress in quantum computers, near-term quantum computing is expected to perform significantly faster and more accurate simulations of physical models that are intractable on classical computers. However, there are crucial problems with current and near-future quantum devices: enormous computation errors and restricted hardware scale. In this talk, I will introduce our new framework, “Dual-GSE”, which provides both quantum error mitigation (QEM) and simulation of quantum systems larger than the scale of available quantum hardware. Dual-GSE inherits a great advantage of “generalised quantum subspace expansion (GSE)“, the most general and powerful error-agnostic QEM method for the time being, mitigating both coherent and stochastic errors at the expense of quantum operations over many state copies. We avoid the state copies by defining a significantly practical error-mitigated quantum state construction using “dual-state purification”. Our method also adopts the divide-and-conquer strategy that reintroduces the entanglement effect classically among the divided small quantum subsystems. This results in not only the resource-efficient simulation of large physical systems beyond the size of given quantum hardware but also a remarkable reduction of the mitigation and simulation overhead, running much fewer circuits on quantum devices and suppressing the estimation variance with smaller sampling costs.
