The Common Agricultural Policy as a partnership between society and agriculture aims to ensure a stable supply of food, safeguard farmers’ income, protect the environment and keep rural areas vibrant. However, the year 2024 is getting off to a strong start with protests by farmers all over Europe, which are linked, among others, to restrictions on nitrogen emissions, water use and pesticide bans. The additional environmental constraints imposed on European agricultural sector are linked with subsidies that are granted to farmers as long as they comply with the terms of the agricultural policy.
On these challenging times, how can we encourage farmers to meet ecological expectations? This study aims to understand the public opinion on the matter and explore how farmers would be willing to act in order to overcome these challenges.
