Olympia World Affairs Council (OWAC) offers scholarships for students admitted to study abroad programs through local colleges/universities.
• Saint Martin’s University
• South Puget Sound Community College
• The Evergreen State College
The $1,000 scholarship is designed to support student needs associated with their intended study abroad experience in the period prior to the term of travel (i.e. passport fees, visa fees, travel, program deposits, airfare).
2025-2026 Application Deadline:
• November 15, 2025
Limitations and Requirements:
• Students must have applied for their chosen study abroad program by the time funds are approved.
• Associated college/university staff will verify the students’ admitted status to the OWAC committee prior to funds disbursal.
• Student funding requests cannot exceed the cost of their stated expenses.
• Students can apply more than once, but not for the same study abroad program. Preference is given to first-time applicants.
• Scholarship recipients are required to report back on their experience once completed; this can be done in a variety of ways, but at a minimum they must provide a photo of their host community and a short statement about their experience. Statements will live on the OWAC website and may be shared in newsletters and on social media platforms. Students are welcome to join OWAC events to share their experiences in real-time.
