Informed Consent 

You are invited to participate in a research study entitled An analysis of job satisfaction and teacher retention among Career and Technical Education teachers with respect to gender, years of service, and CTE pathway taught. You were selected as a potential participant due to being an educator in a CTE pathway. Please read this form and ask any questions you may have before acting on this invitation to participate in the study. 

This study is being conducted by Kelsey McLean, a doctoral candidate at the University of the Cumberlands (UC) and has been approved by the UC Institutional Review Board (IRB).

Procedures:

If you agree to be in this study, you will be asked to complete an online survey that will take approximately 30 minutes. 

Background Information:

The purpose of this study is to evaluate factors that may impact teacher job satisfaction and retention of Career and Technical Education teachers. The study will involve approximately 400 participants.

Inclusion Criteria:

You can participate in this study if you: 

  • Are 18 years or older
  • If you teach Career and Technical Education in the public school setting at the middle or high school level. 
Voluntary Nature of the Study:
Your participation in this study is strictly voluntary. Your decision whether or not to participate will not affect your current or future relations with any Career and Technical Education Association including but not limited to the Association for Career and Technical Education or the University of the Cumberlands. If you initially decide to participate, you are still free to withdraw at any time later without affecting those relationships.

Risk and Benefits in the study:
While research studies pose a possibility of minimal risk, at this time there are no foreseen physical, social, psychological, legal, or other risks associated with this research study. Risk will be minimized by the researcher not asking any identifiable information. However, study findings may provide the overall benefit of job satisfaction and retention among CTE teachers regarding impact factors. Upon completing the survey, participants will have the opportunity to enter their email for a chance to win a $25 gift card. They may also choose to decline the opportunity to enter their email for the change to win a $25 gift card.

In the event you experience stress or anxiety during your participation in the study, you may terminate your participation at any time. You may refuse to answer any questions you consider invasive or stressful. 

Compensation:
There will be no compensation provided for your participation in this study. However, there will be an opportunity to win a $25 gift card available to those interested in participating in a random drawing by providing your email at the end of the survey.

Confidentiality: 
Any data or records gathered from your participation will be kept private. Any identifiable data gathered will be coded to protect your identity. In any report of this study that might be published, the researcher will not include any information that will make it possible to identify you. Research records will be securely stored on a password-protected computer and only accessible to the researcher and the researcher's faculty advisors. Research records will be deleted three years after the study is completed.
