Like everything else, MLK Day with J-Teen Leadership looks a little different this year. Rather than our usual gathering of 200+ teens, we are having a two-pronged day of service for teens in 8th-12th grade -
Panel on Racial Justice: What Teens Can Do - From 1-2pm, we'll gather virtually with teens from all over the country who are passionate about tikkun olam, community service, and racial justice. Email firstname.lastname@example.org
to register, or with any questions
Local Service Projects - We are proud to offer several community service projects for teens in/around Westchester County later in the afternoon, after the virtual panel. Here are the options:
The New Jewish Home, Sarah Neuman - Create and send activity kits for the elderly residents that we usually get to enjoy spending time with to brighten their days and help keep them busy while they are unable to socialize with each other.
Collection Drive - Bring any used/new baby or children's size clothing, and sneakers of any size to the UPPER parking lot at UJA's White Plains office. (925 Westchester Ave, between 4-4:30pm on MLK Day)
AFYA - Pick up a box of medical supplies such as gloves, gauze, and tape, sort them at home, and bring it to AFYA to be distributed to healthcare facilities impacted by Covid-19. (THIS PROJECT IS FULL - if you select this option, you will be added to the waiting list)
914 Cares - Pick up a box of period products, sort them at home to create smaller kits of period products, and bring it to 914 Cares to be distributed to those who need them. (THIS PROJECT IS FULL - if you select this option, you will be added to the waiting list)
Dorot - Write and send letters to seniors with Dorot. These letters will be included in the winter package the seniors will receive, if sent by January 11th. (PLEASE NOTE the deadline to complete this project has passed)
You may participate in more than one project. Once you've selected which project/s you'd like to participate in, you will receive a confirmation email with further instructions.
