About SheConnects
Media Matters for Democracy is initiating a series of feature stories focused on the lived experiences of women and transgender people with technology and ICT usage. The series seeks to explore and highlight different dimensions of technology's intersection with gender. We are looking for high impact, well researched, detailed pieces, in English or Urdu, featuring real experiences of women and transgender people.

The series will be published on Digital Rights Monitor, Pakistan's first news outlet focused on digital rights and internet governance issues.

EXTENDED DEADLINE - 12th April 2019
We are looking for ideas exploring the following key themes:-

1. Gender and access to ICTs
- Extent of ICT access for women/transgender people
- Technical, social and cultural barriers hindering ICTs and internet access
- Internet access as a harbinger of change for women

2. Gender, technology and economic activity
- Tech-enabled economic opportunities for women and transgendered people
- Exploration of women led tech-enabled entrepreneurship in Pakistan

3. Tech enabled support networks for women and transgendered people
- Digital, gender specific alliance building
- Positive and negative dimensions of engaging in digital support networks (like Soul Sisters and TransAction etc.)
- Intersectionality in digital gender specific support networks
- Commercialisation of digital support networks

4. Gender, tech and expression
- Connection between ICT access and expression
- Gendered exploration of women/transgendered people’s political expression online and reactions
- Digital tools enabling expression of women / transgendered people online
- Challenges and threats to digital expression

5. Gender, law and technology
- Digital / cyber policies & women’s experiences with laws and legal procedures
- Effectiveness of legal instruments dealing with cybercrime against women

Please note that the sub areas mentioned under each category are not exhaustive. Pitches exploring other dimensions within the identified categories are also encouraged and welcome.
1. Each contributor will be paid a fixed rate of 15,000 PKR (inclusive of gov. taxes) per story (2500 - 3000 words)
2. The payment will be made after the final piece is submitted to the editor for publication
3. Stories with multimedia components are highly encouraged
4. Stories can be written in either English or Urdu
5. DRM will retain editorial control of any content commissioned under the series .
6. Journalists can pitch multiple story ideas, but please use separate forms for each separate pitch
7. Contributors are welcome to get stories republished anywhere after the original publication on DRM, provided that due credit is given to DRM as the original place of publication
