About Summer Camp
Girls Rock! DC’s Summer Camp is a week-long in-person music education program for young folks ages 8 to 18 in the DC area. Campers learn to play an instrument, form a band, write an original song, and perform it at a big concert!

We’re holding TWO sessions of Summer Camp this year at 7DrumCity, 1506 North Capitol St NW!
 - July 11-16
 - August 1-6

Summer Camp is open to all young folks in DC, Maryland, and Virginia ages 8-18. We center girls, non-binary, and gender expansive youth, especially Black and brown young people in DC.

This program is a day camp. Sessions are 9am-4pm Monday-Friday and 9am-2pm Saturday.

Volunteer Roles
Volunteers lead Summer Camp and help campers have an amazing experience. We have six different roles that volunteers can play at Summer Camp.

Volunteers may play more than one role, depending on the availability needs, and preference is given to volunteers who can play more than one role. For example, you can apply to be a Camp Counselor and a Workshop Facilitator, or a Band Coach and an Instrument Instructor, or a Floating Counselor and a Performer.

You'll have a chance to apply for each of the roles that you're interested in.

All volunteers are offered a monetary gift to thank them for their time.

Here’s what volunteers do at Summer Camp:
-Teach campers to jam on electric guitar, groove on electric bass, kick it on keys, sing like a diva, or rock out on drums.
-Design and lead more than 40 hours of fun activities and lessons.
-Coach small groups of campers to collaboratively write original songs.
-Facilitate workshops on music, art, activism, and community.
-Give private concerts just for campers.
-Support campers to put on a real live show at a DC venue.
-Share their experiences and skills with the next generation of rock stars.
-Spend quality time with other rad adults.
Volunteer Roles at Summer Camp
Volunteer Training
You'll receive training on how to follow the program curriculum, prepare for sessions, and make Summer Camp fun and engaging. Volunteers will join a private slack for Summer Camp and will receive support from the Girls Rock! DC team throughout the program.
Volunteer Commitment
Each Summer Camp lasts six days, and there are two sessions. Some volunteer roles require you to be at camp every day. Other roles are one-time opportunities. Both types of volunteer roles are important commitments, and volunteers are responsible for completing their training and required documentation before camp and for showing up for their assigned sessions during the program.
How to Apply
If you're 18+, please complete the below application so we can determine if your interest, availability and skills and Girls Rock! DC's needs result in a match.

As Summer Camp supports minors, volunteer training and a background check are required for ALL volunteers.

At Girls Rock! DC, we strive to create the most inclusive, safest space possible for our campers and volunteers. We do not tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, or any other form of discrimination and bigotry. We also strive to create a volunteer base that reflects the diversity of our youth and community and strongly encourage people of color, people who are queer, gender non-binary and/or trans, and any folks who come from traditionally oppressed experiences to apply to be Girls Rock! DC volunteers. We ALL need role models.
