Polarisation is on the rise. Black-and-white worldviews are drowning out the Grey Middle Ground with its countless opinions, identities and nuances. In this session we will share insights to our campaign strategies, and give you a masterclass on storytelling for a grey audience. This workshop will explore how COVID-19 can drive hate, division, and violence - particularly for vulnerable groups. We will discuss how COVID-19 interacts with and amplifies existing risk factors for violence, including particular dangerous communication patterns and underlying psycho-social dynamics.

The Dutch Knowledge platform Integration & Society has carried out a research into which scientific theories and practical approaches are applicable for the prevention of and dealing with undesirable polarization. In this workshop you will learn to work with these different theoretical and practical models, including few case studies on which we will demonstrate and apply the theoretical models.

Sept. 30 - 15:00 - 18:00 - ONLINE WS 8 - Betting On The Right Horse: How To Successfully Counter Polarising Narratives (And Know When To Disengage)
In this workshop, you will learn how to constructively intervene when confronted with online hate-speech, conspiracy narratives, or other factors contributing to polarization. You will identify best practices for interventions based on your own experiences. Finally, you will have the chance to directly apply what you have learned in a participatory simulation exercise in a small group setting.

THIS IS AN OFFLINE EVENT! Carmine Rodi is a trainer, speaker, event host and stand-up comedian professionally active since 2001 and he is happy to provoke us with politically incorrect and very divisive humor during our conference. With a background in journalism and business, his main focus is to study and practice how stories shape us and the world around us, and in his work he uses storytelling-based methods for creativity, personal development and to entertain.
