exSEL 2019-2020: Request for Applications
The Excellence through Social Emotional Learning (exSEL) Network is seeking school districts across Massachusetts to participate in a collaborative learning network designed to increase their capacity to improve social-emotional learning and build more supportive learning environments.

For the 2019-2020 school year, the exSEL Network—and its partners the Rennie Center for Education Research & Policy (Rennie) and Transforming Education (TransformEd) will facilitate learning among several cohorts of districts who choose to focus on particular SEL-related areas of interest. Participating district teams will have the opportunity to learn from one another’s current work, discuss problems of practice with like-minded colleagues, and gain new skills to apply right away in their schools or districts.

Interested districts can apply to one or more of the following cohorts:

1. Learning Cohort:
Schools or districts new to exSEL (either those who have never participated in exSEL or returning districts sending new team members) will comprise the Learning Cohort, a group of up to ten districts contingent on interest and demand.

2. Launching Cohorts:
Returning districts who have participated in the exSEL network for one year or more are invited to join our Launching Cohort in 2019-2020. This cohort offers districts a collaborative environment in which to delve deeper into a specific topic around SEL. Districts are invited to join one or more of three cohorts, each with its own area of focus:

a. Creating a district-wide SEL plan: Participants will develop focused action steps, create structures and establish systems to set the stage for effective SEL implementation.

b. Embedding SEL in the classroom: Participants will explore different ways to integrate SEL into instruction and academics.

c. Choosing and using SEL assessments: Participants will explore how to use data to inform their efforts to support the whole child.
