WHY WE TAKE THE TEXAS STATE THEORY TEST:-All NSSOTA students grades 1-12, all instruments, are encouraged to take the Texas State Theory Test. -Intended to evaluate the knowledge of music theory, aural, and musicianship concepts across a broad musical spectrum beyond the study of their private instrument-Very attractive on student’s music bio/resume/college application
WHEN: Saturday, June 8 (If the student is not available on this day we will offer a makeup/alternate date on 8/27/19).
TIME:Approx. 45 min. time period assigned between 11a-2p. (After registration is complete, an exact time will be assigned).

TEST ENTRY FEE: $17 per student
THEORY WORKBOOK:$11 (only applicable if student DOES NOT already have the approved theory workbook)
ENTRY FEE $17 DUE:5/1/19 billed on May monthly invoice
GRADING FOR TEXAS STATE THEORY TEST:-Completed test will be sent for grading and available for student pickup approximately two weeks after testing. Student will receive the Texas State Theory Medal which will be presented publicly at the NSSOTA Premier Showcase OR a designated NSSOTA performance.
PREP REQUIREMENTS:Any registered student is required to do the following by May 25, 2019:-complete the assigned theory workbook in its entirety-take one practice test (at home). Practice tests available for pickup from office by 5/1/19. Upon completion, the practice tests will be reviewed by your instructor and student.
SUPPLIES:Theory lesson workbook: Only “Just the Facts” or “Theory Time” books are approved workbooks. If the student does not already have an approved workbook, we will provide one. Workbooks are $11 and will be billed to student account.
