The Initiative will provide funds to cover expenses such as:
-Travel money to conduct research (e.g. a series of pilot interviews in preparation for a case study and/or a project) -Funds to involve a student research assistant in gender-related work-Funds to host an event or small conference-Funds to invite a researcher/faculty member/activist from another institution in the South Asia region
All LUMS faculty are eligible. The Saida Waheed Gender Initiative seeks to support faculty with a demonstrated commitment to engaging with gender and faculty who are interested in exploring the relevance of such engagements to their work.
2. Fund Availability
Faculty will be awarded grants of maximum 150,000 PKR, although in exceptional cases, more funds may be awarded (smaller requests are welcome).
3. Grant Cycle
Applications are rolling. Grants will be awarded upon review by the Steering Committee. In the event a member of the Steering Committee applies, that member will be excluded from the grant review process to avoid a conflict of interest.
At least 50% of awarded funds should be utilized within six months of the award. A short account of research outputs or results of the award should be sent to the Initiative.
5. Selection Factors
Proposals ought to:
-Clearly indicate the potential contribution of the proposed project (with respect to research, pedagogy, understanding of gender);-Demonstrate the interdisciplinarity of their engagements (including highlighting possible cross-school collaborations); -Clarify the involvement of students and the LUMS community (in the research process, presentation, etc)
