Purple Sage Online Absence Form.
DO NOT SUBMIT EARLIER THAN 48 HOURS IN ADVANCE.

Round Rock ISD (RRISD) classifies absences as excused or unexcused, with excused reasons including illness, death in the family, and school-related activities, but unexcused absences can lead to truancy prevention measures, including official letters and attendance plans for 3, 7, and 10+ unexcused absences within specific timeframes, and may result in court involvement and fines for persistent truancy. Students missing over 10% of a class's instructional days may also lose credit unless they complete an approved plan to meet the learning requirements.
Excused Absences
The RRISD considers the following reasons for absence to be excused:
  • Illness with a doctor's note within five days of return.
  • Death in the immediate family.
  • School-related events.
  • Military family visits.
  • Military recruitment or enlistment.
  • State or district-required testing.
  • Work-based learning (secondary students only).
  • Religious holy days.
Unexcused Absences & Truancy
An absence is unexcused if it doesn't fall under the excused reasons. Unexcused absences are addressed through a state-mandated truancy prevention process:
  • 3 Unexcused Absences in 4 Weeks
Parents receive an automatically generated letter, and an administrator initiates a Student Attendance Plan with the parent.
  • 7 Unexcused Absences in 6 Months
The Student Attendance Plan is revisited, and an attendance officer may become involved.
  • 10 Unexcused Absences in 6 Months
Parents receive another letter, the plan is revisited, and a home visit may occur. The attendance officer may escalate the case to court.
Class Credit and Attendance
  • A student who attends less than 90% of the days a class is offered may lose credit for the class.
  • Students with attendance below 90% can potentially regain credit or receive a final grade by completing a plan, approved by the principal or attendance committee, to meet the class's instructional requirements.
Reporting Absences
  • Parents should be familiar with the district's attendance policy and report any unavoidable absence.
  • A doctor's note is required for absences exceeding five consecutive days.
