Welcome to the Louisiana TGNC Name Change Resource Application. Currently we only have funds available for Black and indigenous people, however if you are not Black and/or Indigenous we can still connect you with peer navigators who will help you navigate the legal process of changing your name. 

The application takes approximately 20 minutes to complete, and if you need assistance to complete it please indicate that at the end of the Pre-Application Questions section, then we will contact you to complete the rest over the phone.

The peer navigation program is composed of volunteers, primarily LGBTQIA+ identified law students, who can support you during the process! Peer Navigators are affirming and compassionate LGBTQIA+ people who: offer guidance and information about the process, assist with completing legal paperwork, and who can sometimes accompany you in person to go to the Clerk of Court/other offices and sometimes provide transportation. If you are interested in working with a Peer Navigator there is a place to indicate that in the application.

Please note that due to the small size of our team that processes applications, it might take up to 2 months to hear back from us. When we review your application we will reach out to schedule a video call to meet you, and sometimes we request follow-up information to confirm your location/identity. Please note that this fund is only available for people residing in the state of Louisiana.

This project is co-administered by members Louisiana Trans Advocates and Real Name Campaign NOLA, and the funds come from the Solidaire Foundation’s Nouveau Nom Noir Fund, Trans LifeLine’s Microgrants Program, and from the donations of TGNC community and allies. Unfortunately the funds are limited so it is not possible to provide all applicants with funding. If there are not funds available at this time, please know that you are welcome to re-apply in the future.
